Historical Opening of ancient trading route of Nepal and Tibet in Rasuwa district of Timure ( Nepal ) and Kyirong of Tibet, China as a point of entry for trade and international travelers soon.
After the earthquake of 25th April 2015, Kodari – Zhangmmu border closed due to heavy landslide and damaged of Friendship Bridge. Now, after one year, new port of entry will be open soon in Timure of Rasuwa district in Langtang area. This is a ancient trade route where Nepali and Tibetan army fought war several times until the last treaty of Thapathali was sighed between than Prime Minister Junga Bahadur Rana and Kolan Shatra from Tibet side. Small town of Timure is situated at the elevation of 1800m/5904ft north of Kathmandu at the distance of approx. 170km is the last Nepali town before the border of Nepal and Tibet ( China ). Journey from Kathmandu to Tibet border takes along the Prithwi Highway up to Galchi approx. 45km and off the highway towards border town of Timure, this is old road fairly in good condition except one particular landslide affected area of approx. 12km between Ramche and Mulkharka, only 4WD or high clearance vehicle driven by good experience driver should be used for this journey. Nepali Army also checks national park permit fee cost US$ 35 from any none Nepali national. Drive is scenic and beautiful however there are many Army check point due to Langtang National Park home of Red Panda and many flora and Fauna. You drive through many interesting village as they are the starting points of Langtang Trek such as Dunche and Syambrubensi, there is a famous Chilime Hydro Power Center before yo reach Timure where temporary Nepali immigration and custom office have been set up. There is a helipad nearby which could be helpful during any emergency situation.
After opening this ancient trade route for international tourist traveling to Tibet via Nepal, there is a good possibility of changing economy and livelihood of local people living this is area. China plan to extend their Railway line connecting Kyirong Border into Nepal and beyond. Currently, railway line has reached up to Shigatse 700km from Kyirong border.
